Diocese of Spokane Catholic Schools
Why Catholic Education?
Catholic education is founded in Jesus Christ, the Redeemer. The Diocese of Spokane’s Catholic Schools imitates the warm and intimate atmosphere of the family home. We will prepare your child to be a global citizen by fostering the love for wisdom and truth and integrating faith, culture, and life into their daily lessons. Our education framework aims to develop every child’s intellectual, physical, psychological, moral, and religious abilities. Catholic schools are part of the life of the Church and an integral part of your child’s preparation to fulfill their destiny of being disciples of Jesus Christ.
"Over the past few years, our principals and teachers have been clear that their greatest unmet need is support for students with unique learning and behavioral needs. Unfortunately, our schools don’t have the same access to specialists as public systems do, so classroom teachers are carrying out much of this work themselves. This course is a concrete response to the request of the Catholic schools of Eastern Washington."
- Dr. TJ Romano, Ed. D, Superintendent of Catholic Education
Our Teachers: From One Classroom to Another
Catholic school educators across the Diocese of Spokane are strengthening their ability to serve students with diverse learning needs (those who may experience learning differences, behavioral challenges, or physical disabilities) through a new partnership with Gonzaga University and the Nazareth Guild. This fall, teachers and administrators completed the inaugural Certificate in Inclusive Education, a 14-week pilot program designed specifically for our diocese's Catholic schools in Eastern Washington.
Developed in response to diocesan educators’ needs, the program equips teachers with practical strategies to better support all learners in their classrooms. With significant support from the Nazareth Guild, this collaboration reflects a shared commitment to strengthening Catholic education and ensuring every student is welcomed and supported.

Safety Statement
The Diocese of Spokane Catholic Schools takes staff and student safety seriously and each school has implemented emergency plans to ensure a safe learning environment. Each school has a comprehensive safety program that includes regular training for staff, emergency drills, and ongoing assessments of potential safety risks. The safety program is designed to address a range of potential hazards, including natural disasters, medical emergencies, and security threats.
Each school's emergency plans are designed to minimize the impact of emergencies on staff and students. These plans include specific procedures for responding to various types of emergencies, such as active shooter situations, severe weather events, and medical emergencies. These plans are regularly reviewed and updated to address the current safety concerns effectively.
In addition, the Diocese of Spokane and each school maintains close relationships with local law enforcement and emergency services, which enhances the effectiveness of its emergency response plans. By taking staff and student safety seriously and having comprehensive emergency plans in place, the schools within the Diocese of Spokane Catholic are committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for their students and staff.
“When we face challenges together, then we are strong; we discover resources we did not know we had. Jesus did not call the apostles to live in isolation; he called them to for a group, a community.”
-Homily, World Youth Day, Closing Mass, July 28, 2013
As Catholic educators, we form a unique community that bears witness to the lives of our school and parish communities. We are called to be saints to not only our students, the youngest members of our community, but also to the parents and other significant adults in their lives. Please also remember that we are called to be saints to each other. When we are tired or need help with a challenging situation, we must rely on each other and find strength in our community. Sharon, Emily, and I are all here to help support this community.”
